About Nissa de la Torre
Why I Teach
I taught my first “official” private lesson when I was sixteen years old. I felt such a passion for it, I knew instantly it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I teach because I love sharing the enjoyment of music with others. My teaching objectives are to enhance the students’ understanding of music while helping to develop suitable technique and musicality; all the while helping to instill confidence and self-discipline into their playing.
Allowing the students to interact with each other, and to share their musical experiences, will help create another meaningful bond with music. This is why I strive to keep the students active with group lessons and performances. The rewards and effects brought forth through music far extend the ability to play well. Music can have a profound impact in almost every area of life.
Qualifications
I have a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in violin performance. I have taught privately for eleven years and taught in the NU String Project (click to read article) for three years. I have performed with countless musical groups in the genres of symphonic orchestra, pit orchestra, band, choir, string quartet, chamber music, country and bluegrass bands, folk, and under my own name. Currently, I perform with the old-time string band, Little Brown Jug. Additionally, I have completed an apprenticeship in string instrument repair, set-up and maintenance at A. Cavallo Violins, LLC (click to access their website).
